OPERATING THE COUPLER
The coupler enables the use of various optional attachments.
NOTE: To make installing or removing the attachment easier, place
the unit on the ground or on a work bench.
Installing the Attachment
NOTE: Remove the protective cap and gray spacer from the upper
and lower shafts prior to assembling the attachment.
1. Turn the knob counterclockwise to loosen the coupler (Fig. 2).
2. Pull the locking pin out and turn it 90 degrees (Fig. 3), either
clockwise or counterclockwise.
3. While firmly holding the attachment, push it straight into the
coupler.
4. Lock the attachment into the coupler:
a. If the attachment has a release button (Fig. 3), snap it into the
primary hole (Fig. 2), unless noted otherwise in the operator’s
manual for the attachment.
NOTE: Aligning the release button with the guide recess will help
installation (Fig. 2).
b. If the attachment does not have a release button, align the
hole on the attachment with the locking pin. Turn the locking pin
until it retracts into the coupler and snaps into the hole on the
attachment.
5. Turn the knob clockwise to tighten the coupler.
NOTE: Do not tighten the nut (Fig. 4).
For decorative edging with most string trimmer attachments, lock
the release button into the 90° edging hole (Fig. 3).
Removing the Attachment
1. Turn the knob counterclockwise to loosen the coupler (Fig. 2).
2. Unlock the attachment from the coupler:
a. If the attachment has a release button, press and hold the
release button (Fig. 3).
b. If the attachment does not have a release button, pull the
locking pin out and turn it 90 degrees (Fig. 3), either clockwise or
counterclockwise.
3. While firmly holding the upper shaft housing, pull the attachment
straight out of the coupler.
WARNING:
Before using any attachment, read and
understand the manual that came with the attachment.
Follow all safety information contained within.
CAUTION:
Before operating the unit, make sure the
release button or locking pin is fully snapped into the
appropriate hole and the knob is securely tightened.
WARNING:
To avoid serious personal injury and
damage to the unit, shut the unit off before removing or
installing an attachment.
WARNING:
Unless noted otherwise in the operator’s
manual for the attachment, only use the 90˚ edging hole for
decorative trimming with string trimmer attachments.
Using this hole with other attachments could lead to
personal injury or damage to the unit.
