4. Drain the coolant from the engine block.

Remove the coolant drain plug

(Figure 5-17, (1)) from the engine block.

5. After draining the engine coolant, flush the

radiator and engine block to remove any rust,

scale and contaminants.

6. Reinstall and tighten the drain plug or close the

drain cock at the radiator. Reinstall and tighten

the engine block drain plug.

7. Fill radiator and engine with engine coolant.

See Filling Radiator with Engine Coolant on

page 4-16.

Adjust Intake / Exhaust Valve Clearance

Proper adjustment is necessary to maintain the

correct timing for opening and closing the valves.

Improper adjustment will cause the engine to run

noisily, resulting in poor engine performance and

engine damage. See Measuring and Adjusting

Valve Clearance on page 6-34.
